What the hell is selvedge denim?

Up to a few months ago the jeans I had were off the sale rack at random places which they either didn't fit or just sucked. Now after learning a little more about better quality denim I somehow have 6 pairs of selvedge jeans! Nothing too fancy or that expensive just a simple lineup of Evisu, Levi's 501 raw, Levi's LVC 1947 501, Fiberops, and RRL raw.
